Harvest Competiton

During the Summer term, Bedford’s Harpur Centre contacted Cotton End Primary School and invited us to participate in a Harvest Competition. They sent us seeds, which we planted and looked after over the summer.

On Friday 27th September, three children from Badgers and Mrs Robinson travelled to the Harpur Centre, where we showcased our produce (and got a behind the scenes tour of the shopping centre!). We were delighted to come second in the competition, and we won some Harvest goods for our own Harvest Festival as well as a certificate and rosette which are now proudly hanging in the School Hall.

Duxford Trip

Swallows visited Duxford as part of our World War 2 theme. We explored the different war rooms and the planes, such as the Spitfire.

Korky Paul Visits Cotton End!

On Thursday 28th February, the award winning illustrator Korky Paul visited Cotton End! He spoke to us about some of the books he has illustrated, such as Winnie the Witch before demonstrating how he creates his unique pictures. Afterwards, he then brought a story he had illustrated to life.

We had a great day and we are proud to have the paintings Korky created hanging in our hall.

The National Space Centre

Swallows had an exciting trip to the National Space Centre in Leicester. After travelling through snow showers and rain, we safely arrived and entered the amazing building! Our first stop was ‘Into Space’, where we saw a lifesize model of the Space Station. We were very interested to see the tiny shower the astronauts have to use when they are in space!

We also got to visit the Planetarium, which was an impressive 360 cinema. We watched a show called ‘Astronaut’, and we learned what it was like to be an astronaut. The show seemed like it was 3D – it even made Mrs Robinson feel a bit poorly!

Afterwards, we visited the real rockets in the Centre. We rode the lift to the very top (it was very high)! When we got to the top, we looked down at the rockets and imagined what it would be like to be in the rocket – very scary!

When we were at the top of the rocket, we got to see a model of the moon. Inside the model was an actual piece of moon rock! The moon also had markers to show where the different Apollo missions landed.

We had great fun pretending to be an astronaut when we stood behind the space suit, and Miss Grey took pictures of us to put into our theme books at school.

We had a brilliant time at the Space Centre and it really brought our learning to life!

Teddy Bears Picnic

On the last day of term, Robins Class enjoyed a ‘teddy bears picnic’, in which they made their own teddy bears, stuffing them, making a wish and sealing them.

We then took our bears in their special bags to the church hall and had a picnic with teddy bears and parents. Thank you to all the parents and guardians who attended this fantastic event.
