Welcome to Ospreys Class!

Ospreys is our year 5 class, taught by Mrs Catchpole

Our Curriculum

At Cotton End Forest School, we are committed to providing a creative curriculum which is based on ‘Learning Beyond the Classroom’. This approach is hands-on, broad and balanced, and provides our pupils with opportunities to gain essential knowledge, skills and understanding. We intend that all children should enjoy their learning, achieve their potential and become independent life-long learners.

Through a creative, holistic, outdoor-focused approach, we will aim high, striving for every child to achieve highly, both academically and socially. Through learning opportunities in the classroom and beyond, including Forest School, our curriculum will nurture curious minds, stretch imaginations and provide opportunities for every child to become leaders in their own right. We believe that education takes place beyond the walls of the classroom, and we utilise our outdoor space to promote a fully inclusive environment where children feel safe and confident to try new things.

In Ospreys class, children continue to develop the skill of working independently and children are encouraged to challenge themselves across the curriculum.

The children learn through a range of high quality classroom based activities and a range of practical tasks which caters for all learning styles. We link our learning objectives to our termly themes and the children immerse themselves in their learning. All learning is promoted through the school ethos and vision to provide our children with opportunities to become confident, happy children valuing and respecting diversity and who are proud of their achievements.

Our Summer topic is Earth and Space, and is our science based topic.

Important information for Year 5:

Homework will be set each Friday and must be handed in by the following Thursday. This will contain a variety of work each week linked to the learning in class. There will be English and Maths plus occasional topic based or science learning activities.

Spellings and Times tables are given out on Friday and must be returned the following Thursday in order to organise new ones for next week. It is important that your child accesses the online learning, including TT Rockstars and Purple Mash, in order to practice their times tables.

Forest School sessions take place on a Thursday afternoon – please make sure children have wellington boots, waterproofs and a waterproof coat or jacket. These are part of the everyday school uniform and may be needed for additional outdoor learning sessions at any time, so please make sure your child is fully equipped in school.

Children have PE on a Wednesday afternoon – please make sure children have the correct PE kit in schools at all times.

If you have any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact me. I am looking forward to welcoming all the pupils back!
