Welcome to Willow Class!
Willow is one of our Reception classes which provides children with full access to the areas of learning in the classroom, whilst easing children into more formal learning in short bursts. Learning is based around a creative curriculum, providing children with exciting learning opportunities and new concepts; covering the Development Matters 2013 criteria. All children have access to play based activities to build up a wealth of experiences, and to keep this new and exciting, the classroom layout evolves with the children, enhancing their engagement with learning.
Phonics is taught daily following Letters and Sounds, which focus on enabling children to build up their knowledge of letter sounds, whilst working on reading skills such as blending, segmenting and phoneme manipulation. Numeracy is taught as a whole class teaching activity and a 1:1 setup with an adult, whilst the use of specific resources in the designated Numeracy Area allows children to work on mathematical concepts in a play based way.
Our topic this term is called “It’s my house”. Although some children are returning to school this half term we have continued to provide ideas for the different areas of learning, thinking of activities which can be completed by those children still learning from home. The specific and prime areas suggest learning in maths, English and topic links and the continuous provision planning suggests games and practical activities which will support other Early learning goals. All phonic learning can be found on the website www.phonicsplay.co.uk
