Welcome to Owls Class!
Owls is our Key Stage 1 class for children in Year 1.
We enjoy a creative approach to our learning where all of the children’s needs are catered for.
In Owls class we begin to develop the skill of working independently and children are encouraged to find things out for themselves and to challenge and extend their ideas.
The children learn through a range of hands on, practical tasks as well as more formal written activities. We link our learning objectives to our high quality termly themes and the children immerse themselves in their learning.
Some important information:
Learning Logs are sent home every Friday and are due in the following Wednesday.
Spellings are sent home on a Friday. Spelling books are due back on the following Wednesday and the children are tested on the Friday.
Please ensure your child has a PE kit in school which includes warm and sensible footwear as the weather begins to get colder. Your child also needs waterproof trousers, wellington boots and a warm coat for forest school sessions on a Wednesday afternoon.
From the Spring term, show and tell needs to be linked to our topic if the children wish to share this with the class. Celebrating success for awards outside school can be shared in Friday celebration assemblies.
Our Spring term topic is ‘Africa’ This topic is geography based and the children will be learning about where Africa is in the world and what life is like in Africa. Our main text in English is ‘One day on our Blue Planet, In the Savannah’ and the children will have lots of fun learning all about the country and the African wildlife.
During the term the children will be creating African sunset pictures in Art, making masks and African drums in Design Technology as well as learning how to play African music. We are looking forward to a fun term ahead!
